Yes, we started the movie quite excited. It was action right from the start, and the movie applied the newly found successful formula of Hollywood remake in which the story was told again from the beginning instead of smacking in between, so that viewers had the background knowledge and enough time to bond with the characters instead of being forced to like them without knowing much about them if not at all. So, now at least we know that Superman was actually from Krypto planet, and why he lost power every time he was near a Kryptonian metal piece. But that was also the point where the movie started going downhill.
The movie also attempted to reintroduce us to Lois Lane and how her relationship with Superman evolved over time from stranger to lover. That was quite exciting to know, especially for those who did not read the comics. And to tell the truth, Amy Adams had more edge and personality than the previous Lois Lane that we saw in other Superman movies before that. (The same thing could also be said about the new Gwen Stacy in Amazing Spiderman). She was not just a pretty flower vase, but a capable journalist who had enough brain to think independently and enough guts to confront the man of steel.
Although Russell Crowe only appeared in a few minutes at the beginning of the movie, he made quite an impression to me. He set the storyline, adjusted the expectation, set the theme and opened the plot, quite convincingly. Sadly, the others could not keep the momentum. What a waste. Anyway, Russell is still a favourite for me, no matter what. He’s cool, he’s calm and he’s always a fun to watch.
The new guy casted to play Superman is more macho, more rugged and more manly than the statue like beauty in the previous films. He is handsome, I agree. However, he had a lot to beef up in terms of acting, as he was not convincing enough, and his acting was still not very smooth and natural. Hopefully it will improve with time. Or maybe it will not (look at Pattison and where he still is after all those movies)
Sorry Kevin, but you did not have enough screen time for us to even remember why you were in the movie. Enough said.
Ok, he comes the cape man. His outfit got a major overhaul to fit the new trend of figure hugging, skin tight muscle showing as seen in other super heroes nowadays. And physically, he is fit for it. If only his moves and facial expressions are also as fit as his physique. If only.

Here is another look at Amy Adams. To me, she is really the star of this movie, and the only reason I said there trying to swallow through the rest of the movie indeed, just to know what would happen to her in the end.
Ok, here comes another girl, and I am really sorry that I cannot tell you much about her as I have no idea either. I believe she also came from Krypto, and she was a minor villain who supported the main villain, who was really a pain to watch throughout the whole movie. That’s all I can recall about her. Here is a flashback of the previous Superman and previous Lois Lane. The girls were more stiff and more beautiful, and the guys were equally handsome and painful to watch.
If you don’t think she is beautiful, then you surely need to go check your eyes. 🙂
Ok, I think that’s pretty much what I can recall about this movie. Go ahead, ignore me, watch the movie if you really want to, or if you are a die hard fan, or if you have 3 hours with nothing else to spend on. Just remember, you have been warned. And by the way, the fighting scenes are the most frustrating to watch, with the Superman and the villains hitting each other through buildings and all kinds of stuffs without inflicting much damage on each other, as both of them were harder than steel itself. And the slow motion sequences of the punches and kicks. OMG.
