The Blacklist Season 3 Episode 2 – Marvin Gerard, the fallen lawyer

Another solid episode of The Blacklist season 3. No more luxury of discarding one black lister to the hands of FBI every week, Red has to build his army to fight back against the mysterious Cabal. He had to run, he had to hide, but that did not make him desperate, and he surely did not lose his cool or composure. That’s the trait of a great mind who does not let anything cloud his judgement, and the reason why the series is so cool.

Liz, on the other hand, felt into panic a couple of times here and there. That is perfectly understandable, given the fact that she is still a newbie in the crisscrossing world of crimes and schemers. Luckily she had Red, who seemed to have the right answer to every question, and Red will do whatever he can to keep her safe and clear her name, even if that means bringing a criminal empire from shadow into light and making tonnes of enemies in the process.

I still have doubts why Red would do all that. Why he would risk everything for her. Why he came out to FBI in the first place. There must be something more than his love for her mother that has been driving all his actions. It was not Berlin, everything started long before that when he hired Tom to go into her life. Could it be the infamous Fulcrum? Maybe no, since the Fulcrum has appeared, but the impact was not really earth-shattering. Or maybe there is something else in that cryptic Fulcrum that Red has still not found out yet? Something that will explain everything. Well, time will tell, and let the excitement continue building up. We are having a good time waiting for it every week, so why cut the fun short? Let’s wait and see.

This fallen lawyer may be an important piece of the puzzle that Red wanted to put together. He may even be the main piece, or at least such an important piece that Red had to stage a whole drama to get him to his team. And I am impressed by the way he got it done. Who would have thought of staging a kidnap just to cover a jail break. Only Red can do that kind of thing, and he did it so charmingly and convincingly. And it seemed to be worth it, given that the guy managed to find out something from the Fulcrum that Red missed out (imagine it, Red missed out something important!) With more time, who knows what else he can unearth from that treasure trove of dark materials.

It’s getting darker, and it’s getting more fun. It’s faster and there are more surprises. Keep on wowing us, and carrying us away like this. And from the photos of the next episode, we will surely be in for a joy ride again.
